Those who forecast weather take a lot of heat when the forecast is off.

But when the National Weather Service estimated the amount of snow that was going going to fall here last night they were dead on. We had 3 inches on the ground here at westofthei.com headquarters at 8 a.m. — exactly at the upper limit of the forecast. It was good shoveling too; easy to push and not icy.

Of course it is still snowing lightly at almost 9 a.m. But the forecast says that should stop during the day today. There’s a 40 percent chance of snow resuming tonight and continuing Sunday. Sunday night  and Monday there’s a 90 percent chance of snow, with accumulation of 1 to 3 inches forecast.

UPDATE 11:15 a.m. — Measured an additional 3/8ths of an inch.
