The Twin Lakes Village Board is going in a different direction on how it plans to get messages out to the community via a downtown electronic sign.

Last month, the board seemed headed toward purchasing a sign capable of displaying full color and graphical images along with text.

But last week, village administrator Jennifer Pollitt asked the board to reject bids received for those type of signs after further research by her showed that such a sign might not work for the village’s location at North and South Lake Avenue. The full graphic signs are typically used in locations farther from a roadway.

“I just wasn’t very happy with the quality,” Pollitt said.

The current sign at the location has a manual marquee that limits how much information can be displayed.

Most municipalities that use similar signs use a simpler electronic text only style, with the messages in a single color.

“It’s definitely easier to read,” Pollitt said. “I do think it would be a better sign for the location.”

The Board rejected the bids for the graphical signs and will request bids for a text sign in the future.”

The village has budgeted $15,000 for the sign.
