The former Westosha Clinic building
The Community Library is considering a new facility for its Silver Lake location, Silver Lake representative to the board Sue Gerber said last week.
Gerber was speaking at a Silver Lake Village Board meeting. She is also a village trustee.
She said library administration and representatives of the member municipalities met at the former Westosha Clinic building in Silver Lake recently to see if that building was suitable. The building is on a triangle of property between Second, Fourth and Larch streets.
Reaction was generally favorable, Gerber said.
The current location on Cogswell Drive has several drawbacks, Gerber said. It has limited parking, is only 700 square feet inside and is not a walking/biking friendly location due to it being on a county highway.
“It’s cute, … but it’s so small there are no programs that are able to be held there,” Gerber said of the current location.
The new location has 2,000 square feet on two floors. It is for sale for $139,000.
Member municipalities that are towns — in this case Randall and Salem — have to have land purchases approved by the electors. Twin Lakes, Paddock Lake and Silver Lake, being villages, could move forward with a purchase by a majority vote of their village boards.
The library’s other branches are in Salem and Twin Lakes. The Twin Lakes branch was renovated and expanded in late 2011 and early 2012.
