The Kenosha County Sheriff’s Department is making notification of the release of convicted sex offender Torrence Smothers into Western Kenosha County.

Smothers “held a piece of glass against the throat of an adult female acquaintance and sexually assaulted her. He also threatened to kill her if she screamed or told on him,” a bulletin from the Kenosha County Sheriff’s Department said.

Smothers, 50, was placed in the community on Tuesday, Jan. 15 after being released from prison. He will be residing within a half mile radius of Highway MB and Highway 50 and is on the short range electronic monitoring system.

Smothers is to have no unsupervised contact with minors, no taverns, bars or liquor stores. He is to have no contact with his victim and is not to consume alcohol or drugs. He must comply with standard sex offender rules, face-to-face contact with law enforcement is required and must comply with all requirements and be a lifetime registrant of Wisconsin Sex Offender Registration Program.

Smothers is not wanted by the Sheriff’s Department at this time.

“This notification is not intended to alarm the community, but rather it is our belief that an informed community is a safer community,” the Sheriff’s Department bulletin says.
