Slippery conditions on I-94 caused multiple crashes this morning on I-94 near Highway C.
The Kenosha County Sheriff’s Department released the following statement on the situation, including one crash that resulted in critical injuries to one man:
This morning between the hours of 6 and 9:30 a.m. Kenosha County Sheriff’s Deputies and The Wisconsin State Patrol responded to nine crashes on I-94 SB South of CTH C. The nine crashes involved 13 vehicles. There were multiple other spinouts during that same time frame in the same area. The crashes were due to snow creating slippery road conditions. One of the crashes resulted in the driver being critically injured and traffic on I-94 SB being rerouted. At 0651 hours a vehicle being driven by an 83 year old male from New Berlin, WI left the roadway on I-94 South of CTH C. The vehicle rolled over multiple times and came to rest on its roof in a marsh area with 3-5 feet of standing water. The 76 year old female passenger, also from New Berlin was able to exit the vehicle. The driver was trapped in the vehicle and submerged under water until he could be extricated. The Kenosha County Dive team utilized the Jaws of Life to cut the driver from the vehicle. The driver was transported to St. Catherine’s Hospital and remains in severely critical condition at this time. The passenger was transported to Aurora Hospital for minor injuries. No citations have been issued at this time. Traffic on I-94 SB was rerouted off of the freeway at the CTH C off ramp and back onto the freeway at the CTH Q on ramp for about 45 minutes during the serious injury accident.
Pleasant Prairie and Bristol fire departments were at the scene.
