The Kenosha County Specialized Response Team’s Hazardous Materials Division held an open house to showcase the equipment used to provide Haz Mat Services from 9:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. on Thursday, Nov. 8 at Somers Fire Station #1, 7511 12th St..

The open house included displays of the equipment used and a presentation on Hazardous Materials Division operations. Among those in attendance were County Executive Jim Kreuser and Sheriff David Beth.

KCSRT Haz Mat Team Coordinator Mark Niederer (also a Bristol Fire and Rescue battalion chief) said one of the things most noticed by the public when the team is working at a scene is how long they can work. That’s because there is a very specific sequence of procedures to follow.

“It’s kind of an orchestrated thing,” Niederer said, “It can take some time.”

The team receives funding from the county, state and individual communities.
