Twin Lakes will keep official trick or treat hours this year at 4 to 7 p.m. on Oct. 31 after action by the Village Board Monday.
The hours are the same as the village has observed since at least 2007, according to a report distributed to trustees.
The vote for trick or treat hours on Halloween was 3 to 2, with Trustees Sharon Bower and Aaron Karow voting against.
The board members who supported the Halloween hours acknowledged they have heard from both those supporting the traditional hours and those favoring moving trick or treat hours to Sunday afternoon since the issue was first discussed earlier this month. But those board members said more people favored keeping trick or treat on Halloween.
“I’ve been talking to a lot of people who want to keep it on Wednesday,” said Trustee Jeremy Knoll. Trustee Thomas Connolly said the feedback he received was 70 to 30 percent in favor trick or treat on Halloween.
But those favoring Sunday said the feedback they received favored the change.
“They talked to me and they would like to have it on Sunday,” Bower said.
“I’ve gotten a whole lot of feedback to have it on Sunday,” said Karow after the vote. “You guys have it otherwise, so we voted on it.”
Other Western Kenosha County municipalities that set official trick or treat hours opt for 4 to 7 on Halloween, except Wheatland, which generally sets 2 to 5 p.m. the Sunday before Halloween as its official hours.
Well, I for one am very glad that we are doing it on the day! That’s Halloween and tradition!
