The burning ban in Kenosha County parks has been lifted.

From a press release issued late Wednesday afternoon:

The burning ban that had been in effect at all Kenosha County Parks since June 28th has been lifted, Kenosha County Parks Operations General Manager Jonathan Rudie said Wednesday. “The recent rains have allowed dormant grassy areas to start green up.” Rudie said. “The Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources has downgraded the Fire Danger Conditions to ‘low’ and we now are confident that the park areas have received enough moisture to negate the possibility of any large grass fires.” As a result of the lifted ban, people will now be allowed to have open fires in designated areas and grill with wood and charcoal in the parks, Rudie said. The grills in the parks that had been covered will now be uncovered, Rudie said. “We thank the public for being so cooperative and understanding during the burning ban,” Rudie said.

Six county parks are in Western Kenosha County — Old Settlers Park in Paddock Lake, Bristol Woods County Park in Bristol, Brightondale Park in Brighton, Silver Lake Park in Salem, Fox River Park in Salem and KD Park in Wheatland and Randall.

Burning bans instituted through each Western Kenosha County fire department are still in effect.

I will assume this also means we can have small campfires now in our backyards, right?

  2. Jodi Massie says:

What about homeowners having bonfires? Is there still a ban on that?

  3. Jodie and Matt: As far as I know right now the only place the burning ban has been lifted is in the county parks, but I am checking with some county fire chiefs to make sure. — DH

Matt & Jodie, there is still a burn ban county wide! No bonfires are alowed! If a fire is reported area firefighters will respond along with sheriff dept and it comes with a hefty fine! Just a friendly FYI
