Bristol Fire Chief Peter Parker is the 2012 Progress Days Outstanding Citizen.

Parker was selected from nominations submitted by the community.

Parker was praised in his nomination for his expertise as a fire chief as well as for unifying the department.

In short remarks afterwards, Parker said he was surprised and honored by being named Outstanding Citizen. Here’s video of his acceptance remarks:

“I thought with having to cancel the fireworks that probably no one would be talking to me,” Parker said in his acceptance remarks. Sunday’s traditional fireworks display near the end of Progress Days were cancelled this year due to extremely dry conditions that presented a fire hazard. They will be rescheduled for a as yet unknown later date.

Village President Mike Farrell made the announcement at the annual coronation banquet tonight.
