Heat advisory still in effect for this afternoon

The National Weather Service still has a heat advisory in effect for our area from noon to 8 p.m. During that period temps could be as high as 100 and heat index values as high as 105.

The longer range forecast shows little relief for the high temps or the lack of rain. The coolest temps in the forecast will be Sunday and Monday with highs in the high 80s. The greatest chance of rain comes Sunday with a 40 percent chance of a thunderstorm during the day.

Here’s a link to a story with information from the county health department about dealing with today’s extremely high temps, including the location of cooling centers.
