SEED announces the availability of matching grants for the construction of one or more hoop houses in Kenosha, Racine or Walworth Counties. Total grant money available is $5,000.
Grants will be announced in July, 2012 and construction must be completed by September 1, 2012.
The goal of the grant(s) is to demonstrate growing season extension techniques that can be utilized by small-scale produce farmers to increase their production to meet the expansion of demand for local healthy food in the region. A Request for Proposals (RFP) application form can be obtained by contacting SEED Board member Waleed Ahmad at 637-8377 extension 108. Applicants can mail in the application to SEED at 2113 N. Wisconsin Street, Racine, WI 53403. All RFP applications should be received by July 2, 2012.
SEED is a not for profit Wisconsin Corporation whose Mission is “Making lives better and creating jobs through healthy sustainable, local agriculture.†SEED operates under the fiscal sponsorship of the Racine/Kenosha Community Action Agency. The grant money is a result of a donation made to SEED by Midwest Foods, Inc., www.midwestfoods.com a food distribution business located in Chicago which purchases and distributes food to a broad range of customers including, but not limited to restaurants, food stores, schools, entertainment and sports venues, etc. in a five state area including Wisconsin.
