Silver Lake Village Board approves its share for fire department grant

The Silver Lake Village Board last week approved spending $2,200 to complete a $42,000 federal grant awarded to the Silver Lake Fire Department.

The $2,200 represented the village’s required matching share.

The total grant was used by the department to purchase a safer and faster system for refilling air packs, called a cascade system.

Trustee Michael Decker, who also is a fire department member, said when the grant was first announced in February that it was the department’s largest ever.

The new cascade system has already been installed in the fire station and can be used.

The old cascade system is obsolete and likely has no resale value other than for parts, said Trustee David Snow, also a fire department member. He added that the department will try to sell the parts to other departments.
