Paris Town Board to meet on residents county tax liabilities

The Paris Town Board will hold a special meeting Wednesday, June 13 to discuss and possibly act on payment of residents’ county tax liabilities.

The agenda for the special meeting says the board may also discuss and possibly act on options for notifying residents of the board’s decision.

There is a slot on the agenda for citizens comments as well.

The meeting will be held at the Paris Safety Building and will start at 7 p.m.

In the past the town has paid residents’ county property taxes out of revenue the town receivies from the Waste Management owned Pheasant Run landfill. However dumping at the landfill has decreased significantly due to an increase in state taxes on dumpers and Waste Management is sending less money to the town. Consequently the town — which levies no town property tax — has been considering whether it can continue to pay residents county taxes.

Why isn’t the agenda for such a meeting on the Town’s website? School is out so I can’t see it on the school doors. The website is supposed to be where the residents can find out this type of information. Makes a person wonder why they don’t want people to know about the meeting. This meeting affects everyone in the Town! This article says the board may also discuss and possibly act on options for notifying residents of the board’s decision. I hope their choice of notifying us is better than the way we find out about things now.

The agenda is on the Paris town website under the Special Meeting heading.

Thanks Mike – I wondering though, is that where they put all of their plan commission agendas also? I can never find those either.

  4. Nothing new to see here. says:

According to the board, there is NO rule or law stating that they put anything about any meeting on the website. Residents beware: Just because you found this one Mike doesn’t mean that there aren’t other ones that have not been posted. It has happened. Always avoiding transparency, particularly with one board member. He says a lot but says nothing.

WOW!!! Talk about transparent! Dare I ask which board member you are talking about?
