Units responding for report of crash in Salem

At 8:07 p.m., Salem Fire/Rescue units and sheriff’s deputies are responding to a report of a crash at Highways 83 and JF in Salem.

Dispatch reports that there are two vehicles involved. The vehicles are blocking the intersection. Airbags have deployed.

UPDATE 8:09 p.m. — Dispatch reports that one vehicle has moderate front end damage.

UPDATE 8:18 p.m. — Second ambulance dispatched to the scene.

    This is the second accident this month at this intersection; there have been many more since it was “improved”. I spoke to Salem Town Board two years ago that this is going to be a bad intersection, There was no real enthusiasm on their part. I called the DOT and got no were with them. There have been times I’ve waited a long time before being able to cross it. There is also a poorly designed turn onto JF and cars have come too close to each other. Going East people think they have the RIGHT to pull up on your rightside to make a right turn….show me the right turn lane! This is a BAD intersection and getting worse.

    Any word on what happened just over the border in Antioch at the same time last night? Tons of cop cars on the side road just before the train tracks in front of the auto body shop.
