Eagle Scout project to improve accessibility at park

An Eagle Scout project will improve accessibility for people with disabilities at a Salem park, the Town Board learned Monday night.

Scout Andrew Lamar is planning to build a wheelchair ramp for the school house building at Miller Park in Trevor along with installing accessible picnic tables at the park. Lamar also is planning to install playground equipment that the town has already purchased.

The town’s public works department will assist Lamar as needed, especially for the playground equipment, said Mike Murdock, the highway department supervisor.

Former town Chairman Linda Valentine said the Western Kenosha County Historical Society, which rents the schoolhouse building, has not seen the plans for the project. Murdock said that is because the plans are not ready yet and that he would forward them when they are done.

Scouts working to obtain Eagle rank, the highest rank in Boy Scouts, much complete a public service project.
