Launch for Lake Benedict being explored

Establishing a boat launch on Lake Benedict in Randall is being explored, the Town Board heard Thursday.

The town received a report from representatives of the Benedict/Tombeau Lake Management District on what that group has done on the  issue so far.

In recent years, an arrangement has been in place with the owner of the Three Lakes Restaurant property to allow people to launch there, said Bob Meyer, speaking for the management district.

The district recently formed a committee to look at the issue of establishing a launch. Meyer said he personally favored buying a strip of property from the owner of the restaurant property because the lake is deeper there for launching.

Figuring out how to raise money to buy property is the first step, Meyer said. After that the district will need figure out how to run the launch.

Regardless, Meyer acknowledged, the launch will likely have to be open to the public since it would be owned by a public entity.

“We understand we can’t make it a private lake,” Meyer said.

Chairman Bob Stoll asked that the Town Board be kept apprised of the project.

“I would hope we can keep an open dialogue,” Stoll said.

Meyer pledged to keep the board informed.

“If we come up with a plan we will let every one know about it,” Meyer said.

Lake Benedict need a public boat launch I lived in the area for over 15 years and it makes me mad that I can’t fish my favorite lake because I can’t get my boat on the lake
