Kenosha County Executive Jim Kreuser announced Friday that KD Park, 8530 352nd Avenue, will be open seven days a week from May 5 through Nov. 25.

The park, on the site of a former gravel pit, will be open daily from 7 a.m. to dusk.

This represents considerably more hours than the park was open last summer, in which its gates were open for just 19 dates from May through early September.

Allowed park activities will include:

  • Hiking.
  • Catch & Release Fishing.
  • Leashed Dog-Walking (The Warren Close Bark Park, an off-leash dog park offered nearby) .
  • Picnicking.
  • Snowshoeing.
  • Cross Country.
  • Skiing when weather permits.

Activities not allowed at this time are canoeing, kayaking, mountain biking, campfires, horseback riding, model rockets, camping and other activities. Additional activities may be considered by permit by request to General Manager of Park Operations Jonathan Rudie. For more information, contact Rudie at 262-857-1869.

A friend was there opening day. Her and daughter walked the trails. The ticks are on steroids. When they got back to their car they were covered.
    But they did have fun.
