The Salem Town Board has created a committee to explore planning and funding town Fourth of July activities — including fireworks.
The committee was created after lengthy discussion at Monday’s Town Board meeting, town Chairman Diann Tesar said.
The committee will consist of volunteers and create ways to raise money for fireworks and related community events in the future, Tesar said.
“Fireworks are very expensive and I felt that it was time to raise some money without taxation for some community events,” said Tesar in an email message. She added perhaps some events might be able to be held this summer, with fireworks being held next Fourth of July holiday if fundraising is successful.
Mike Culat, Steve Brown and Gail Peckler-Dzicki offered to be on the committee, Tesar said. All three are candidates for town supervisor in the April 3 election.
Didn’t Salem have this once before a few years ago? There was a parade for the race car gentleman.
