Units responding for gas leak investigation in Brighton

At 4:49 p.m., Salem Fire/Rescue and sheriff’s deputies are responding to a report of a strong smell of gas in a residence in the 4700 block of 301st Ave., Brighton.

Dispatch report that a We Energies troubleshooter also is responding.

UPDATE 4:58 p.m. — Dispatch reports that We Energies does not have gas service to the address. There is a propane tank however.

UPDATE 4:59 p.m. — Personnel at scene reports propane is turned off and residence has been evacuated.

UPDATE 5:20 p.m. — No gas leak detected by fire department. Units returning to quarters.
