Randall Plan Commission and Town Board OK with Rugged Maniac event and additional garage

The Randall Plan Commission and Town Board gave favorable recommendations to the approval of a 5K run with obstacles at Wilmot Mountain and a request of a homeowner to build an additional garage on his property.

Wilmot Mountain is seeking to host a Rugged Maniac event this summer. The race is organized by a company that puts on the events across the nation.

The race’s course will be set-up entirely in the Randall portion of the Wilmot Mountain property, representatives of the ski hill business said. They also will be contacting the Randall Fire Department about establishing safety and emergency medical service at the site — as well as a station where participants may have their accumulated mud hosed off by firefighters.

Both the Plan Commission and Town Board gave unanimous favorable recommendations for the requested temporary use permit. The county will have final approval.

“It sounds pretty good to me,” said commission Chairman Charles Gitzinger. “I think it’s good for the area.”

In another matter, a request by Michael Biba for a variance to allow the building of a second garage on his property was approved.

The property has an existing three-car garage, but he would like to add a two-car garage, Biba said. He said he has two daughters that will soon have cars and he has an additional “fun car.”

The new garage will not require a new driveway, Biba said.

Both the Plan Commission and Town Board gave unanimous favorable recommendations for the requested variance. The county will have final approval.

“He’s got a wonderfully maintained hedge row there,” said Supervisor Mike Halvorson, who was chairing the meeting in absence of Chairman Bob Stoll. “I’m glad someone’s getting new toys.”
