Aquanuts Water Shows has received approval from the Twin Lakes Village Board for its plans to host a barefoot water skiing figure 8 tournament this spring.
The tournament, dubbed “Nut Fest,” is scheduled to take place May 5 and 6 at Lance Park, where the Aquanuts annual summer ski shows are also held.
The group was asking the village for permission to:
- Be granted a temporary liquor license for the duration of the event.
- Use a sound system for music and announcements.
- Conduct raffles.
- Display products from sponsors, such as boats and motors.
The above received the unanimous support of the Village Board, contingent on subsequent final approval of the Park Commission, which will meet later this month.
Todd Renn, one of the event’s organizers, speaking at the Committee of the Whole meeting earlier this month, said the tournament will consist of two barefooters competing against each other behind one boat. The skier who stays up the longer advances in the bracket. Two to three tow boats will be used to keep the competition moving. Two safety boats also will be on scene.
The event is expected to run from 9 a.m. until sunset, a letter from Renn to board members said.
