Ugh….How many accidents do we have to read about before people are ready to realize that Roundabouts will help???? Randy Kerkman??
Roundabouts are confusing and stupid.
I dont know that they are stupid, but their creation does involve a taking of property, usually illuminate the area with glarrish lighting, make crossing the area on foot near impossible, and makes for a big division between all the areas any side of it because of the bump in the middle. People who didnt purchase property at the corner, now could be ‘at the corner’. I dont know the specifics in this case, but jumping to the conclusion that a roundabout could have prevented this is a big leap. Was drinking a contributor? Other drug issues? Medical event? Inattentiveness? Malfunction of the vehicle? If these were the case, then a roundabout wouldnt necessarily have prevented a collision but could have increased the impact on others who would have been in the flow. Unless Bristol Resident above is a property owner at that corner, I think he is promoting something as longs as it is not in his/her back yard.
Rounda-a-bouts are NOT the answer! People need to start taking their driving seriously. Forget their cell phone and texting to begin with… then keep the eyes and brain on the ROAD.
Driving a vehicle is like driving a weapon. If people would stop and think that they are driving something that can kill themselves or others and that they are not merely sitting in a chair with a roof, then I think we would see less accidents. People walking, people riding on bikes or motorcycles, people in other cars or trucks h ave little chance when a car becomes a projectile. In my mind, the only competition a car has is a locomotive. In all other cases the car wins and people lose. Roundabouts are just what is being grabbed by WisDOT as an answer for the present time.
