Rose Nolan resigned her posts as a Randall supervisor and member of the Board of Review in a letter dated today and delivered to town Clerk Phyllis Kaskin.
In the brief letter, which you can see here, Nolan cites health problems as her reason for resigning.
Nolan missed the last eight regular and special Town Board meetings.
Whether the supervisor post will be filled by appointment or a special election is not yet known.
Someone could be appointed to fill Nolan’s seat and then a special election be held in April 2012 — simultaneously with regular spring elections — to fill out the remaining one year of the term. This is what Salem did when faced with a town board vacancy this fall due to the death of Supervisor Joseph Meier.
The board also could leave the seat vacant until April and wait for the election to fill it. I don’t know if an appointee could stay in the seat for the remainder of the term when there is an election opportunity in April 2012.
UPDATE 11-29 — Town Chairman Bob Stoll told me in an email message that he is leaning toward appointing someone for the balance of the term.
Hey King Bob, I’m leaning for an election in April.
