For the second year in a row, the Central High School Boys Cross Country Team won the eight-team Southern Lakes Cross Country Meet on Saturday, Oct. 15 at UW-Parkside, successfully defending its Conference Title.
The Falcons took first with 31 points; Waterford was second with 46 points. Wilmot placed seventh with 189 points.
Leading the Falcon boys was Casey Merrill who finished first, becoming the Falcon’s first conference champion since Josh Monson in 2003. Merrill was followed closely by teammate, Tyler Fiebelkorn, who finished second. Rounding out the top five Falcon runners were: Charles Lamp (7), Grant MacKinnon (9), and Brian Sockness (12), all of whom made first team All-SLC.
Wilmot ‘s lead runner was Matt Wagemann who placed 20th with a time of 18:18.0, and earned honorable mention All- SLC honors.
Central girls placed third (53) behind Lake Geneva Badger (47) and Waterford (49). Central’s lead runner, Maria Sabourin, finished fifth with a time of 16:26.9. She was followed closely by teammates Joanne Reiners (sixth, 16:30.3) and Maddie Murphy (eighth, 16:38.9).
Wilmot girls placed fifth with 146 points. Wilmot’s top runner, Joanna Stozek, finished 17th with a time of 16:44.8; teammate Amy O’Connell placed 26 with a time of 17:07.8.
