In a subdued atmosphere tonight in Paddock Lake, the boys volleyball Falcons swept the Rebels 3-0, on scores of 25-22, 25-15, 25-17.
After a moment of silence for CHS teacher Dave Novaez and his wife Kristin, a teacher at Union Grove High School, who were killed in an motorcycle crash Sunday, the Falcons took the floor, with black and camo headbands in honor of the German teacher.
They fell behind quickly 3- 0 but clawed back to win the first set 25 – 22 behind solid play from the three seniors Eric Spangler, Sam Picchietti and Mike Michelau.
The second set was a different story altogether, Falcons opened up a quick lead and never relinquished it with strong serves from Regan Hess, Dakota Armbruster, Caleb Mobile and Brooks Gahart. The Falcons were solid on offense with sophomore Gahart getting 32 assists.
The third was more of the same and coach Wayne Schultz emptied his bench and quickly dispatched the Rebels.
“I was happy with how efficient we were in the match with good effort from the team as a whole,” Schultz said. “I have been a little unhappy with that aspect recently but we turned that around tonight.”
The Falcons were led serving by Mobile and Hess with 2 aces and on defensive blocks with Hess 3, Luke Werth 2, and Mobile. Kills leaders were Mobile with 12, Michelau 8, Hess 8, Spangler 5. Digs leaders were Libero Jake Stetson 9, Mobile 7.
