County Detention Center death being investigated

The Tuesday death of a man being held at the Kenosha County Detention Center is being investigated by a neighboring county’s sheriff’s department.

From a statement released through Sgt. Bill Beth, Kenosha County Sheriff’s Department spokesman:

On 09-27-11 at 0040 hrs Correctional Staff at the Kenosha County Detention Center (KCDC) 4777 – 88th Ave found an inmate had attempted to commit suicide by hanging himself. Life saving efforts were immediately attempted, but were not successful. The subject, Chad M. Winkie 40 years of age of Greendale, WI, was being housed by Kenosha County for the US Marshall’s Service out of Milwaukee. The initial investigation conducted by Kenosha County Sheriff’s Deputies found nothing out of the ordinary in this case. Because Winkie was being housed for The US Marshall’s Service, Sheriff David Beth has asked The Walworth County Sheriff’s Office to conduct an independent investigation. That portion of the investigation is ongoing.
