The Wheatland Town Board approved a closure of 345th Avenue for a pre-registration party for a charity motorcycle ride.

Kathy Meinen, owner of Dave’s Saloon, where the event will be held, made the request. The ride is called Toy Run for Love, Inc and supplies toys for needy children. Among her customers, Meinen said, she collects donations for school supplies, with which she helped 450 families through Love. Inc.

After some discussion at the meeting about retaining access for customers from a neighboring business, the board agreed to close the west end of 345th Avenue from 3 p.m. to 7:30 p.m., and then the whole street after that — with customers already in the neighboring business – B&D Village Inn, able to exit to the north.

After 7:30 p.m., all vehicle coming to Dave’s will be directed to park in the town parking lot across the street and to the east or at St. Alphonsus.

The board will consider liquor serving and other issues related to the event at the Aug. 22 meeting.
