Silver Lake will be changing its cellphone carrier, after actions by the Village Board Wednesday.
The village will be changing to Verizon. Its current carrier is Nextel.
Trustee Pat Dunn, who researched the issue, estimated about a $150 per month savings based on average useage.
The village did have a year to go yet on its Nextel contract, but Dunn said the buyout fee could be paid for with a couple of months savings from the new service.
Cellphones are used in the police, public works and fire departments.
The vote to change the carrier was approved unanimousily. Last week, Randall also decided to change its cellphone carrier to Verizon from Nextel.
