Twin Lakes National Night Out event attracted a good crowd, despite a downpour as a thunderstorm passed through just after activities got under way in earnest at St. John the Evangelist Church.
The event serves as an opportunity for community members to interact with police and other emergency workers in a friendly, non-stressful setting. There’s lots of equipment to look at — and in some cases crawl into — as well as demonstrations of K9 units, fire fighting and the bomb squad robot.
When the rain fell, everything moved inside for a while, until the rain stopped. Then the smoke house and whatever equipment was still there opened up again outside.

Another new aspect this year was a contest among the pizza restaurants that provided free food to those attending. First place was a tie between Big Al’s and Lancelot Pizza, both of Twin Lakes. Other restaurants participating were Donovan’s, Half-Time Pizza and Tammy’s Pizza.
