Fireworks in Silver Lake are officially back.

Village officials have not funded a summer fireworks display in recent years, citing budget constraints.

This year, a committee of residents decided to try to raise the needed funds from donations.

Wednesday, Mary Albrecht, who led the fundraising campaign, announced that $6,085 had been collected so far, with some donation cans still out in the community and uncounted.

Some of the larger donors included Silver Lake Property Holdings, Peoples Bank and Silver Lake Auto, Mary Albrecht said.

Also Wednesday, representatives of the Silver Lake Police Association presented a check for $1,000 to the fund that they raised through a car wash.

The display, which will cost $3,000, will take place July 16 at dusk in conjunction with the Silver Lake Fire Department’s festival. The Village Board on Wednesday approved the fireworks and launching from the village launch a barge from which the show will be set off on the lake. The board also approved the village Water Patrol enforcing safety around the barge.

Members of the Silver Lake Police Association present village President Jeff Albrecht with a ceremonial check for $1,000 for the Silver Lake Fireworks Fund.

Does anyone know if Silver Lake Park will be allowed to remain open for this event? It would give people more room t view the fireworks. Not many places in town to sit and watch from.
