Silver Lake Hoping funds enough to pay for fireworks

Thanks to generous donations by members of the community, including a $500 check from People’s Bank, it looks as if the skies of Silver Lake will be ablaze with fireworks next month for the annual Firefighter’s Festival. An Ad hoc committee of volunteers collected money and held a metal recycling drive on June 9-11 at the old lumber company barn near the Rescue Squad building.

So far, monetary donations have reached $1539, and after the metal is delivered to the recycling company June 17, the committee, organized by Mary Albrecht is hoping it will be enough to reach the $3000 needed to pay J & M Displays for the fireworks presentation.

According to Trustee Barbara Ironside, the citizen interest is touching and impressive.

“There was one man who has been out of work for a while and he managed to bring in an entire milk jug filled with change,” she said. “We also collected $95 from a convenience store in town and it is all citizen driven.”

Because turnout was greater than expected, no additional fundraisers are planned.
