Salem School students spend a day in court

Salem School fifth graders recently spent a day at Salem Town Hall, where they got a tour and learned about the court process.

Students heard from a town safety officer  and municipal Judge Mike Langel.

A highlight of the day were mock trials staged by the students. Students filled all of the crucial roles, from judge, to prosecutors and defense attorneys, to witnesses to jury members.

The cases and testimony were prepared ahead of time, but the verdicts were not. The juries had to deliberate to come to a verdict after hearing the evidence presented.
