New Silver Lake village President Jeff Albrecht invited residents to come to two meetings tonight at Village Hall.
And they came.
First up was a citizens advisory committee meeting starting at 6 p.m. That was followed by the regular Village Board meeting at 7 p.m.
More than 50 people attended both — a much larger number than normal.
At the regular board meeting, trustees and then the public had a chance to suggest priorities for the Village Board.
Trustee priorities were:
- Keep taxes low.
- Accountability.
- Exploring annexation.
- Communication.
- Economic development.
- Sharing service with other municipalities when feasible.
Additional citizen suggested priorities were:
- Fireworks.
- More events.
- Community involvement.
- Infrastructure.
Albrecht described the discussion at the initial meeting as “professional and invigorating,” while adding that not everyone was happy in the end.
“Now we have some goals and objective,” Albrecht said of the board. “Now it’s up to us to go out and define them …”
I ATTENDED THE 6:00 P.M. MEETING AND I WAS NOT SURPRISED BY THE TURNOUT OF RESIDENTS…..WE,THE TAXPAYERS, WANTED A CHANGE AND WE ELECTED THAT CHANGE….I HOPE THAT WE CAN GET SOME COMMITTEES TOGETHER AND ALL WORK TOGETHER TO HELP JEFF AND HIS BOARD REACH A FEW OF THEIR GOALS….I REALIZE ROME WASN’T BUILT IN A DAY , AND THAT IS THE SAME APPROACH WE HAVE TO DO HERE…..ONE STEP AT A TIME….. GOOD JOB JEFF…….JUDIE SCHWARTZ
