Gateway Technical College’s student group, The Silent Connection, will host the Ninth Annual Deaf Culture Day 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. April 19 in Room 112 and the student commons of Gateway’s Elkhorn Campus, 400 County Road H.
The annual event is held to honor deaf culture in America and to bring hearing and deaf cultures together in an effort to break down communication and cultural barriers. Organizers also hope it will increase education and awareness of deaf culture.
The event will feature:
- This year’s honoree Bette Mentz-Powell.
- The Sing Song Troupe from the Wisconsin School for the Deaf.
- Several vendors with deaf-related resources.
- A game of Jeopardy.
The event is free and the public welcome to attend.
