4-H Pinewood Derby coverage

Kenosha County 4-H held its second annual pinewood derby Monday evening in the hearing room of the Kenosha County Center, Bristol.

John deMontmollin, UW-Extension 4-H Youth Development educator, said 186 kits for making cars were mailed out to 4-H Club members this year, an increase from last year.

Club members had about six weeks to work on their cars, which all were made from the same kit and had to meet certain specifications for size and weight. However, there’s a lot of leeway for creativity within those standards. Each car raced in three heats to determine its position.

Participants competed in several classes based on age, with trophies awarded in each class.
