The Salem Town Board will have a workshop meeting Feb. 21 at 6:30 p.m. to formulate its view of what the town’s new Chapter 20 ordinance regulating uses of lakes and rivers should look like.
The town has been working on revisions to the ordinance for about 18 months. A group made up of representatives of local lake districts and associations suggested changes.
However at a public hearing last month on the ordinance, most people present expressed support for reverting to state regulations for the most part on lake regulation.
The current draft of the ordinance cites state regulations except for a few local exceptions.
Once the board settles on a ordinance, the state Department of Natural Resources will have 60 days to review the law. After DNR review, it can be enacted by the board.
