Silver Lake village Trustee Ann Augustin reminds people who had a live Christmas tree this year to bring their trees and wreaths to be part of the village’s 12th Night celebration rather than just dragging them to the curb.
On Thursday Jan. 6, the village will re-enact the time-honored tradition of 12th Night beginning at 7 p.m. A large bonfire will be lit under the direction of Silver Lake Fire Chief Bill Brown. Hot chocolate, donated by the Silver Lake Fire & Rescue Squad Auxiliary and sweets baked by the Parks Commission will be served at the conclusion of the celebration.
People wishing to donate their live tree to the event can bring it to the area just south of the Fire Department and stack them in the clearly marked area.
“We began this celebration in 1996 and each year it has grown larger,” Augustin said. “We’re hoping that the 2011 burning will be the biggest and brightest ever.”
