Central basketball boys defeat Badger

The Central Falcons visited Lake Geneva Badger Tuesday in an SLC game. The Falcons won 59-53.

The Falcons brought along a lot of fans, dressed in Christmas themed outfits, to bring cheer to the Falcons.

The opening quarter saw the Falcons stay close at 10-9 after one. Despite a number of turnovers by the Falcons, the Badgers were cold missing shots from close range.
The Falcons got off to a quick start in the second quarter, with Junior Dalton Sjong scoring 5 straight points to go up 14-10. The Falcons held a 22-19 halftime lead, protecting the ball better and timely baskets by Tyler Stoxen and Jason Castona on consecutive possessions to open up the advantage. The Falcons got off to another good start with Sjong converting a 3 point play after getting fouled. Stoxen and Castona chipped in with short jumpers, Castona’s off a fast break started by Sjong, and the Falcons moved out to a 29-21 lead with under 5 minutes to play in the quarter. The Falcons opened up the lead with Stoxen taking the ball to the basket and scoring and went to the 4th quarter with an 11 point lead, 39-28.

The fourth quarter was a see saw of trips to the free throw line for both squads, with Central going up 48-40 on 2 free throws by Austin Damaschke. A short jumper by Sjong put the Falcons up 54-45. Badger managed to stay close with a layup and free throws, and a stolen pass that they converted into a 3 point play to close to 58-53 with 15 seconds to play. Sjong hit a free throw to provide the final at 59-53.

Central was led in scoring by Sjong with 17, Damaschke and Stoxen each had 15 and Castona had 10. Central was a stellar 27 of 32 from the charity stripe. The Baders were led by Gruenwald-Schmitz with 15, Growel with 10 and Andresen with 7.
