The Central High School boys volleyball team has got off to a successful start at the state tournament tonight at Wisconsin Lutheran College, Milwaukee.
The boys prevailed in a seesaw battle to take their first game 25-22 versus Nicolet. Great hitting by Mike Michelau amde the difference for the Falcons.
UPDATE 9:08 p.m. — After being down the entire game Central came back to take a lead at 21-20, but got out of synch and lost 25-22. Good serving by Jake Stetson and Dayton Erickson led the Falcons in set two. Tied at 1 apiece
UPDATE 9:21 p.m. — After a slow start getting down 7-1, Central made it tight at the end, but untimely serve errors led to a defeat. Nicolet up 2 – 1
UPDATE 9:22 p.m. — Despite service errors Central had huge hitting by Michelau and great scrambling to win game 4. Going to game 5!
UPDATE 9:37 p.m. — Central wins! With a crazy crowd behind them, the Falcons prevailed 3-2 with incredible team defense and offense led by Michelau’s 6 kills and Nick Manning serving. Central plays Catholic Memorial at noon.
UPDATE — Coach Schultz commented that this team does not quit, it keeps battling and it showed that tonight with the determination to get to the 5th game, and then virtually steamrolling the Knights behind Mike’s kills and Nick’s serving.
Central was led on offense with 29 kills by Mike Michelau, and 15 by Nick Manning, along with Dayton Erickson’s amazing 50 assists. On defense the Falcons were led by Nick Manning with 15, Andrew Thoss 13 and Mike Michelau with 11, with Regan Hess, Caleb Mobile and Brooks Gahart all assisting on 3 blocks.
