One person in Highway 45 crash identified

The Kenosha County Sheriff’sĀ DepartmentĀ has issued the following statement regarding a two-vehicle crash on Highway 45 in Bristiol this morning in which one person died:

Today at approx. 9:30 am Kenosha Sheriff’s Deputies responded the scene of a serious car accident on US 45 at the 12000 block. The accident involved a head on collision between two vehicles, one north bound and one south bound. A witness reports that a Pontiac Grand Am was south bound on USH 45 when it crossed the centerline and drifted into the path of a north bound Honda civic.

Investigators indicate that the driver of the north bound Honda attempted to veer towards the right shoulder, but was unable to avoid the collision. The driver of the Honda died at the scene. She was a 56-year-old woman from Pleasant Prairie. Her identity is being withheld until family can be notified.

The driver of the south bound Pontiac sustained serious, but non-life threatening, injuries. She was flighted to Froedtert Hospital in Milwaukee. She is indentified as Stephanie Martinez (23) believed to be from the Salem area.

Both victims had to be extricated from their vehicles. There were no other occupants. US Hwy 45 was closed between CTH V and CTH CJ (Horton Rd.) for approx. 3 hours while deputies investigated the accident scene.

The accident remains under investigation. …”

UPDATE 11/11 — The driver who was killed has been identified as Rosalynne R. (Biggs) Giacomel of Pleasant Prairie.

    I agree with the previous post (I believe that was my mother). It’s time to take a pro-active approach to this problem, rather than being reactive and allowing tragedy to strike several more families before action is taken. Why do so many people have to die in order for the proper thing to be done? Local politicians- it’s time to step in and represent your voters, as you promised you would!
