Twin Lakes Main Street temporary bypass closing

The temporary bypass road in downtown Twin Lakes that uses part of the municipal parking lot was closed today so work can be done in the lot.

That means though traffic downtown will need to use the designated detour routes. From a village press release issued today:

Eastbound Main Street traffic will be routed north on Burden Avenue to East Hunt and back to N Lake. Westbound Main Street traffic traveling on Basset toward the now-closed bypass road will be routed straight on Basset Street to Pawley Avenue and back to Main Street. It is anticipated that this will remain the situation until Main Street is opened on Thursday of this week. Travelers are reminded that these detours use residential streets. Please obey all speed limits and watch for children and others in and near the roadway.

Parking is available on Main Street and it can be access from Lake Avenue, Lance Drive, or Burden Avenue. The road is expected to be fully open to all through traffic Thursday, November 11 after finishing of the last concrete crosswalk.

Upon opening of traffic on Main Street, the “double stop” on Lake Avenue will be removed. Until then, it will remain in place to control the access of Main Street through traffic onto Lake Avenue and to facilitate turning into the Main Street parking areas. A few days of continued patience is encouraged. Additionally, drivers are reminded that the four way stop where Main Street, Lance Drive, and Pawley Avenue meet at the west end of the downtown will remain. The Village Board implemented that as a permanent four way stop intersection to address various traffic and pedestrian issues in that location.
