Kenosha County Executive Jim Kreuser and County Board Supervisor Dennis Elverman are inviting the public to explore the future county park planned in Randall and Wheatland.

The future park, located at 8530  352nd Ave., Randall, will be open from 8 a.m. until 5 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 16 and Saturday, Oct. 30.

Kenosha County purchased the former gravel pit on Highway KD between State Highway 50 to the north and Highway F to the south about 10 years ago with the idea of transforming it into a public park.

The future park entrance and County Highway KD were improved this past summer using Federal ARRA money.

People will have the opportunity to walk the paths that were cut and created with the help of the Summer Youth Employment Program workers at the direction of County Parks staff.

The County Executive’s Green Ribbon Committee, consisting of representatives from Snap-On Tools, Gateway Technical College, the Wilmot High School District, the Central High School District, the county Public Works Department, and area residents have been meeting to discuss creating a park with an emphasis on sustainable living education and recreation.

Highway 50 is currently closed at County Highway KD. To get to KD Park from the East, take Highway 50 west to Geneva Road. Turn left on Geneva Road and continue to County Highway KD. Turn left on County Highway KD and continue south for 1 ¾ miles to the park entrance.

For more information about the open houses, please call 653-2831.
