Twin Lakes PD to have a motorcycle for a little longer

The Twin Lakes Police Department will be keeping its motorcycle — and training two officers to use it — after action taken by the Village Board Tuesday night.

The board agreed to send two officers to training to use the motorcycle.

Under use of the motorcycle had been a topic of some controversy amongst board members over the last year at least.

The issue came to a head again two weeks ago when the board felt it needed to decide whether to get officers trained to use the motorcycle fully or sell it.

After hearing Tuesday night from the two officers that will undergo the training, the board agreed to fund the training. It will cost about $4,900.

Another factor was the police association’s willingness to upfront the cost of the tuition for the training (but not the travel expenses). If the officers pass, the village agreed to reimburse the association.
