The victim in a fatal crash on Highway 50 and Highway W Sunday evening has been identified as Linda S. Carlson, 47, of Salem.
According to Sheriff’s Department spokesman Sgt. Gil Benn:
Deputies responded with rescue personnel to the intersection of Highway 50 and Highway W (north) for a report of a two-vehicle injury accident. Based on a witness statement and evidence at the scene, a Pontiac Grand Prix operated by Linda S. Carlson, 47, of Salem had been traveling eastbound on Highway 50 and made a left turn onto Highway W in front of a westbound Jeep Cherokee. Carlson was ejected from the vehicle. The Cherokee was operated by an 18 year-old from of Beloit, and there were five passengers in the vehicle. Carlson had been the only occupant of the Grand Prix. She was found to be deceased at the scene. All six occupants of the Cherokee were transported to Aurora and St. Catherine Hospital with non-life threatening injuries. The injuries did not appear to be serious in nature. Intoxicants were found in Carlson’s vehicle. The driver of the Cherokee submitted to a voluntary blood draw. There was no evidence of impairment on his part.
