A free, fun Kenosha County Safety Fair will be held Saturday, Sept. 25, from 10 a.m to 2 p.m. at Sam’s Club/Wal-Mart located at the intersection of Green Bay and Washington Roads in Somers.

“The purpose of the Safety Fair is to get people thinking about safety, to show people what can happen when things go wrong and how our first responder community (dispatch, EMS, fire, law enforcement and hospital personnel) react to people in crisis,” Ben Schliesman, director of Kenosha County Emergency Management, said. “The Safety Fair will allow not only attendees to talk one-on-one with firefighters and law enforcement personnel, but let them see them in action perform the heroic acts they do on a daily basis.”

Live outdoor demonstrations start at 10:30 a.m.

Salem Fire/Rescue Chief David “Mike” Slover said his department will be among those participating in the fair.

The schedule of events is:

  • 10:30 a.m. Hazardous Materials Team Demonstration.
  • 11:00 a.m. Search & Rescue with Search Dogs.
  • 11:30 a.m. Extrication from vehicle using Jaws of Life with Flight-for-Life Helicopter.
  • 12:30 p.m. Live Fire Burn.
  • 1:30 p.m. Special Teams Demonstration (Dive, Rope, etc.)

The Kenosha County Safety Fair is free and is sponsored by: Kenosha County Emergency Management, Kenosha County Fire Rescue Safety Association, Kenosha County Fire Chief’s Association, Sam’s Club, SE WI Citizen Corps, Wal-Mart and We energies.
