The Central Falcons boys volleyball opened up the season Thursday with a 3-1 victory over the host Burlington Demons to go 1-0 in the SEC.
The Falcons, defending SEC champions, started out a little rusty in the match. With good defense in the later part of the set, and the serving of freshman Brooks Gahart,, the Falcons closed out game one 25-23.
Game 2 saw the Falcons again getting off to a slow start and they never got in sync and were drummed 13-25.
Central in both the 3rd and 4th games got consistent passing, setting and kills to take the match with another 25-23 and to close it out with a 25-20 score.
The Falcons were led in kills by junior Mike Michelau with 22, senior Nick Manning with 19 and sophomore Caleb Mobile with 11, on 51 assists from Dayton Erickson. The serving attack was led by senior Dayton Erickson and Mobile with 3 each. Defensively, the Falcons were led in digs by seniors Andrew Thoss and Nick Manning with 13 each and in blocks by junior Eric Spangler and Mobile with 3 each.
