Silver Lake’s last Concert in the Park for 2010 to feature Lakes Area Community Band

Silver Lake will close its 14th year of the Concerts in the Park series on Sunday, Sept. 12.

The Lakes Area Community Band will be returning to the pavilion for the fourth time. They first appeared in 2005.

The program, which begins at 5 p.m.,  will feature a mix of patriotic songs, show tunes and classical favorites.

Under the directrion of Steve Porch, Lake Area Community Band is comprised of 40 members — all accomplished musicians. The group was established over 18 years ago and is sponsored by Festival Arts of Antioch. They performing eight to 10 concerts a year, mostly in Illinois.

Trsutee Ann Augustin, chairman of the Parks Committee, said she is expecting a large turnout for this concert.

“When the Lakes Area Community Band first played here, the audience response was overhwelming,” Augustin said. “I had many requests that they be booked again this year.”

It surely would not be a Concert in the Park if the Silver Lake Rescue Squad, coordinated by Chief Bob Johnson, didn’t serve their “world famous” brats and hot dogs. The Silver Lake Fire and Rescue Squad Auxiliary adds to the feast by offering soft drinks and water. All monies received go directly to the respective agencies.

Those attending are reminded to bring their own seating.
