Randall to replace water patrol boats

The Randall Town Board approved the purchase of two new water patrol boats at Thursday’s Town Board meeting.

One of the boats will be used for Powers Lake and the other for Lake Benedict.

Water Patrol member Darrell J. Borger presented several quotes he obtained for different boats — one set for a Powers Lake boat and a different set for a Benedict Lake boat.

The boat recommended by the patrol and approved by the Town Board for Powers Lake is a custom fiberglass boat with a 175 horse power motor. One particularly good feature of the boat would be no live wells, which prove to be troublesome on patrol boats, Borger said. The boat will be purchased from Twin Lakes Marine, Twin Lakes, for $31,900.

For Lake Benedict, the patrol recommended and the Town Board approved an aluminum hull boat for $19,800 to be purchased from Jalensky’s in Kenosha.

An aluminum hull is appropriate for Benedict and not Powers because Benedict is smaller and generally has less traffic, Borger said.

The payments for the boats could be made out of the pier fund, which has a balance of $119,000, or through short-term financing, Chairman Bob Stoll said.

The town also will get reimbursement from the state Department of Natural Resources for the boat purchases.
