A man who fled after a sheriff’s deputy attempted to stop him crashed in Paddock Lake early this morning.

Sgt. Gil Benn, Sheriff’s Department spokesman, said today at 4:20 a.m. a patrol deputy observed a subject operating a trail bike without lights on Highway 50 at 236th Avenue, Paddock Lake. The subject fled westbound on Hwy 50  in the eastbound lanes when the deputy attempted to stop him. He then attempted a left turn (southbound) on 244th  Avenue. He failed to negotiate the turn and struck a utility pole. The operator was initially taken to a hospital in Pleasant Prairie and later was transferred to Froedtert Hospital in West Allis. The subject sustained severe head injuries, but is expected to survive.

Deputies believe the suspect was intoxicated and several charges, including fleeing, operating while intoxicated and numerous traffic citations are pending, Benn said.
