The newly formed Central High School Community Band will hold a free concert at Senior Citizens Park in Paddock Lake, on Sunday July 18 starting at 6 p.m.
This is the first of hopefully many free concerts the band will perform at local area parks, under the direction of CHS band director Adam Scheele. Senior Citizens Park is located on the west side of Paddock Lake at the 65th Street and 64th Place.
There are currently around 35 students who participate, Scheele said. The CHS Community Band is open to any student who will be attending high school as well as those who just recently graduated.
Even though the group is labeled as CHS, it is open to any high school student who is a band member at other high schools as well, Scheele said.
“The CHS Community Band came about because I thought it would be something the students would be interested in,” Scheele said. “It’s an opportunity for the students to keep playing their instruments during the summer break, a good way for the incoming freshmen to get to know others and help ease the transition into high school band and a way for the students to gain more musical knowledge as well as have fun with friends and play fun music.”
Plans call another concert later this summer at a time and location yet to be determined.
